What's in store for 2014?

Well, 2013 is almost over. I can't say that I'm sorry, because despite the excitement of self-pubbing my first book, my new job, and the arrival of new family members and friends, this year hasn't been great in a lot of ways, which I won't go into.

2014 is already shaping up to be eventful in regards to my personal life as I have a couple of family weddings and hen nights to partake in. Lots of shopping to be done for outfits etc. It's fun to be a girl.

Otherwise, I will be buckling down and going through She-wolf (Prequel) and Cranberry Blood (Book 1) in The Blood Series. As I mentioned in one of my posts round September, the publishing company these books were with has closed and I got the rights back. Yay!

I wanted to self-pub this series and you better believe I'm gonna. I intend to start going through these books in Jan one after the other and then head straight into writing book 2, which I still don't have a title for at the moment. I'm excited, a little freaked out, because it has been a while since I was in this world, but after the last two years of juggling story ideas, and then having a job . . . I have decided that as much as I want to write all the new shiny story ideas I have, I'm actually no good at juggling.

So, I intend to spend 2014 getting She-Wolf and Cranberry Blood republished, and finishing and publishing book 2. If I don't write anything else, well, I'm not going to beat myself up about it. My priority is getting this series out there and getting on with it. At the moment I am planning on publishing both books at the same time, because they're technically done, and have already been published. So, spacing their release just doesn't make sense to me. Also, despite the high word count - She-Wolf is 60k+ and Cranberry Blood is 90k+ - because they have been published already they will be on sale for a slightly lower price.

So yes, 2014 will see me focusing on writing the long awaited second book in The Blood Series.

The good thing is I also go the rights back to my sweet contemporary romance, Stepping Stones, which I have cleaned up and submitted, and the short sexy story I wrote a few months back, Truth or Dare? will be getting published in 2014. (I'm still waiting on an official release date.)

So, despite possibly only writing one book at least I will have a few releases next year, unlike this year which has been awfully slow, and I do apologize for that.

I don't like setting schedules or dates, mainly because every time I do real life forces me to push everything back. For example, I had originally planned to start going over She-Wolf in November . . . yeah, it didn't happen. Retail and Christmas, what can I say.

So, this is a very loose schedule for 2014, but at least it kinda gives y'all an idea:

Truth or Dare?

A short erotic story coming soon from Decadent Publishing - Let's just say early 2014

Blurb:

Do you dare tell the truth?

A tequila fuelled game of Truth or Dare is not Dani’s idea of fun, but when Cameron, the jerk who rejected her a year ago is the one provoking her into playing, how can she say no? Not that he’s giving her the option in the first place.

Bravado compels her forward, but when the dares get physical and their friends leave them alone, Cameron’s questions turn to her feelings for him, and unfortunately, lying is not part of the game.
Will a dare give Dani the courage she needs to tell Cameron the truth?

Cranberry Blood
(Book 1 in The Blood Series)

Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance - Self Published - I'm aiming for summer (July/August)

Blurb:

Killing Vampires? Easy. Tracking someone? Simple. Helping, and protecting a Vampire slayer... Bloody hard work!

Thirteen years ago, Brendan Daniels made a deal with a psychic. In exchange for information on the whereabouts of a Rogue Werewolf, he promised to help and protect Sofia's granddaughter. Unfortunately, he had no idea what he was getting himself, or his Pack, into.

Nothing about Heather is simple, from her weird dietary needs to her life’s mission. The girl can handle herself, but the promise to protect her soon becomes a need, and one that he can't fully understand.
Vampire Slayer. Born Infected. Blood addict... but not by choice.
Heather Ryan is the most recent slayer in a long family line. Like all before her, she has spent her life searching for her ancestor, Marko Pavel, the Vampire her family has sworn to kill. If that isn't complicated enough, Heather is also a born "Infected", and to keep her from becoming insane or giving in to her darker side, she is on a very strict diet.

Grandmother Sofia has passed, so now it is up to Heather to take the family legacy into her own hands, all alone: or at least, it would have been, if her Grandmother hadn't sent a Werewolf to help her.

What is the irritating Brendan supposed to help Heather with? Sofia never told either one of them. But it doesn't take long for Heather and Brendan to find out that the Vampires have big plans, and that the fiends have waited a long time for them both.

Stepping Stones

Sweet Contemporary Romance - Submitted - With a little luck this title will be contracted and published

Blurb:

There's nothing like a wedding to bring the family together . . . .

And if it wasn't her baby sister's wedding, Margaret West wouldn't be returning home at all.

Why else would she go back after six years, knowing full well that she had people to face, and explanations to give?

If her parents' interrogation wasn't bad enough, the fact that she has to be civil to her foster brother, Adrian, is worse. Best friends since childhood, they haven’t spoken since he went to America . . . the day before Margaret was suppose to be married.

And to make matters even more awful, her ex-fiance William, is the Vicar who will be conducting her sister's wedding ceremony!

All want an answer from her, and they aren't taking no as one of them. Why did she run in the first place? Why has she been so angry with Adrian? Why didn't she marry William?

Margaret isn't even sure she knows the real reason any more.

As always, I look forward to see what life has in store for me in this next year. I'm excited to crack on with The Blood Series, and I remain eternally grateful for the support and friendship of my readers and fellow authors. Thank you all so much.

I hope you all have a fabulous New Year, and I will see you on the other side. ;-P

Shameless Pimping for Christmas!

It's - almost - Christmas! How the heck did that happen? I don't know about anyone else, but I really don't feel very festive this year. Usually it feels like Christmas and I'm just not getting it this year. I think that feeling kinda fades the older you get, and well, let's face it kids make Christmas fun and magical because they get so excited for it. Well, I don't have children so I will have to settle with watching Muppet's Christmas Carol - love that movie! - when I get back from work tomorrow. Hopefully that will do the trick.

So, there is one day left and you might find yourself stuck on getting those last couple of presents or you are all finished and now feel like you deserve a little treat after all that running around, wrapping, and filling out Christmas cards.

Why not treat the ones you love, or yourself to an ebook? Press a button and you get it in an instant. No hassel, no more wrapping, nice and simple, and you can sink your teeth in straight away.

Talking about sinking your teeth in, did you know that the third book in the Eye of the Storm Series, Heart of the Wolf, by the lovely and talented Dianna Hardy is now available to purchase?

Heart of the Wolf

Blurb:

Lydia becomes ever closer to her three mates. However, with unrest all around, she is struggling to keep her wolves together for her first full moon, just twenty-four hours away.

A trip back home for Ryan could bring much needed support for them all, but at what cost?

As The Trident close in on Ryan's pack, the pack itself becomes divided over Lydia's presence and Lawrence is encouraged to return as the Alpha. But they don't know his secret, and he's doubtful of his ability to protect them. Can he fulfil his rightful role, or will his efforts prove fatal?

Meanwhile, among the arid plains of Egypt, in a long-forgotten city, one man is pitting himself against the beast inside him in order to find salvation, only to realise, so much more is at stake than his soul.

Blurb:

Lydia Martin has always had dreams, the weirdest and hottest of them all involving a faceless, muscle-bound man that speaks like sin and smells like sex. Like any sane person, she always put the dreams down to an overactive imagination, coupled with a higher than average libido.

One night, however, instead of their usual, erotic encounters, she finds him in her dream, chained to a wall and screaming in pain. Not only that, but she thinks she recognises the building he's being held captive in as one that's just a few streets away.

Awaking with an irrepressible need to save her fantasy lover, Lydia decides to humour her dream self and head on over to where she thinks he's imprisoned.

What unfolds is beyond even her wildest imaginings, as she's sucked into a dangerous and deadly world she never knew existed ... and it turns out that the man who inhabits her darkest fantasies, isn't the only one that needs releasing.

Cry of the Wolf

Blurb:

The full moon is a week away, and although Lydia is as excited as it gets to run as a wolf for the first time, she is also fighting to keep her independence while trying to understand her role in the lives of the three males that have come to rule hers: compassionate, tender Taylor; impetuous, fun-loving Ryan and distant, cold Lawrence.

There's also a fourth man in Lydia's life. Brendan, her previous "friend with benefits", is tirelessly searching for her. He's about to uncover things that should be kept hidden.

However, the testosterone surrounding her is the last thing she should be worrying about. Her family bear truths about her heritage she's not ready to face ... she may not have a choice, because the greatest danger to them all comes from within. The past never stays buried for long, and among the shadows of their species it is rising with a vengeance, threatening to tear their pack apart for good.

Her daughter appears to be the unwilling key at the heart of a plot to open the Shadow Bridge portal and let Evil return to Earth, and the creature she has given her heart to isn't playing a spotless game, either.

Seraphine 'Sera' Dionysios awakens to the reality that she must take her destiny into her own hands. If only she could come out alive and unscathed from the prophecy she finds herself embroiled in, and if her mother would finally cut the umbilical cord... Unknown forces are at work to breach the portal and release a bloodthirsty kind that will enslave humanity and all other supernatural races. How would Razel's first Christmas with her Prince go?

Dianna's question for me this week: How would Razel's first Christmas with her Prince go?

Now, if you haven't read Razel Dazzle, but would like to read it you may want to skip reading this post because to some degree it is semi-spoiler-ish, but then again if you know what happens at the end of the original fairytale Rapunzel . . . maybe not.

So, read on at your own risk.

For those of you who have so kindly purchased a copy and have indeed read Razel Dazzle - thank you, and I do hope you enjoyed it - you will know that the story is set around Christmas time. Razel and Matthew meet on a Christmas photo shoot, and then later at a New Year Ball - Big Christmas tree taking center stage during this scene lol - but despite it just being the festive season, you may recall Razel yearning to do every day tasks, one in particular is decorating a Christmas tree, something she has never been allowed to do.

Well, Razel now lives with Matthew in his apartment in San Diego along with their three-month-year-old-daughter, Amelia - named after Matthew's mother - and it's their first official Christmas together, and Razel has just gone crazy with the decorations. The tree is massive, almost touches the ceiling and is way to wide. Matthew and Craig didn't have fun getting it up the stairs, but it was worth it to see Razel's excitement. She took her time decorating the huge pine wanting it to be perfect. Once she had finished she moved on to decorating every inch of the house with silly little ornaments, placements, lights . . . oy. You name it. They have it.

Matthew being a man has been rolling his eyes every time she brings more Christmas themed items, but he understands why it is a big deal. And he has been taking pictures like crazy of both of his girls.

Neither Razel or Matthew can cook so they are going out for Christmas dinner with Matthew's good friend, Craig. It would be a shame if they ended up burning their apartment down after she has spent so much time decorating it in gold, red, and green.

And I have a feeling that the little present that Matthew is saving for Christmas evening after they have put Amelia to bed will just make Razel's first Christmas away from her mother, well, the first or many fabulous ones with Matthew. ;-P

And now I think it is only right to share an excerpt. :-)

~ * ~

A moment later, the door of the dressing room opened, and Gabriella walked out, followed by her team.
“Mr. Prince, may I introduce you to Razel D’Punz.”
She stepped out of the way, and he was greeted by a set of ice-blue eyes framed by long, black lashes.
His heartbeat seemed to quicken as he stepped forward and extended his hand. A small smile fluttered across Razel’s ruby red lips as she placed her slender right hand into his left. Her skin, feather soft and almost as white as snow. He raised her hand to his lips, and then pressed a soft kiss upon her knuckles. The smell of coco butter and honey flooded his senses.
“It’s a pleasure, Miss D’Punz,” he commented, meeting her gaze and releasing her hand.
He had seen many pictures of the young model but looking at her in person, no photo would ever do her justice. She wasn’t beautiful. She was flawless…breathtaking.
Her oval face beheld a slender nose and high cheekbones. Her trademark long, golden hair was curled and fell down her shoulders. She looked so pure and innocent next to her witch of a mother.
“How would you like me?” Her voice was like a gentle whisper in his head.
A collision of unexpected and very unprofessional thoughts erupted in his mind, taking him by surprise. The thought of them being alone and Razel allowing that red velvet dress she wore to slide off her body. Of her lying before him, her long hair draped across her naked flesh, teasing him by covering her breasts and sex. His pants became tighter, and heat surged through his body. He coughed, attempting to cover the moan that longed to break from his lips. He could feel everyone’s eyes burning into him.
“If you would just like to start near the tree; pretend you’re decorating it. There is a small box of baubles there for your props.”
Her mother escorted her to the Christmas tree. The velvet caressed every inch of her body. It seemed to dance across her skin with each step she took, almost mocking him. He found himself suddenly and absurdly hating that dress. Hating the way it hugged her graceful curves.
He took a deep breath and focused on checking his camera.
He could see Gabriella fussing over her. Moving her hair off her right shoulder, exposing the milky skin beneath…the gentle dip of the nape of her neck…the top of her right breast….
He pulled his focus from her. “Are we ready?”
Gabriella grunted, handing Razel the box before walking out of the shot.
“Ready when you are, Mr. Prince,” Razel answered, her mouth curved to one side.
“Matthew,” he corrected her. “Please call me Matthew.”
She nodded, picking a gold decoration from the box and holding it up to the tree. He began taking pictures, captivated by the way she moved around the set; comfortable, almost as if she were home within the small space.
“Smile, Razel,” Gabriella snapped.
Razel’s lips turned upward at the command. Her right shoulder dipped forward slightly as her head tilted down and to the right. There it was; her dazzling smile.
He stared through the lens in astonishment. The shy, young girl who had walked out of the dressing room had disappeared. The woman looking back at him reeked of confidence and sheer sexuality.

He forced his finger to press the button and continue taking pictures, but he couldn’t help wonder who she truly was. Was she the shy girl, quiet and almost expressionless, or the confident woman who craved attention?

Naughty or Nice?

Dianna's question for me today: Have you been naughty or nice this year?

A fun, seasonal, and interesting question, and although I would love to say I have been a very naughty girl, and mean it in the fun and dirty way we often imagine when someone gives that answer . . . it would be a lie lol I would have to say that I have been a mixture of both, and in very simple, silly ways to the serious.

I have been dieting for the last two months and I have lost a stone. I'm happy - even though I feel no different and can personally see no difference, but the scales say those pounds have vanished - but naturally dieting near Christmas is a silly idea. I have been naughty because I have started to pick at the treats in the cupboard with the Christmas goodies in. I don't need to eat what's in there, but I have been nibbling and I have to say despite the fact that I scold myself after I have eaten those things, I still do it the next day. So, in that respect I have been naughty in a silly little way.

I always try to be nice to people, even if they are strangers; working in retail makes it hard because customers can be very rude and horrible sometimes, but I try to be nice . . . and then end up ranting after they have left so I can shake off the frustration they caused, which isn't nice.

I try to keep positive thoughts. I try to see the good in everyone. I try to rise above those who want to beat everyone around them down  . . . It's difficult, and I often fail. I get worked up and end up arguing or having a heated discussion with someone.

On one hand I'm very thankful for the things I have, and then on the flip side I find myself cursing everything. Example being, I work because I need to pay my bills - like everyone - and I'm getting a lot of overtime, and a decent wage, something I should be thankful for, but I get irritated, because the more hours I do the less energy I have; the less time I have to write, and my passion ends up suffering. So I get frustrated, and stressed, and begin to sound ungrateful.

This year has actually been hard, both with jobs and my personal life. There has been a lot going on round me; the majority of it hasn't been good. I've changed jobs. Been retrained. Started from scratch in more ways than one. It has been a tiring year and I have often found myself wishing for some people to leave me alone; wishing for space, and more time, and for things to change . . . instead of just going with the flow and seeing what happens. Instead of accepting that everything that has happened this year has indeed happened for a reason.

My impatience makes me naughty person. The fact that I'm easily irritable, and frustrated. The fact that I'm always looking ahead, wanting to be further down the line, and not concentrating on now, and what I have got.

I haven't gone out of my way to be unkind to anyone or to purposely ruin someone day or plans etc, I never say or doing anything to purposely hurt someone, so I don't think I will be getting a lump of coal off Santa this year, but I don't think I have been a complete saint either.

Hopefully next year will be a lot more fun, because being naughty for fun makes a BIG difference. ;-p

Werewolf hotness for just $0.99

Elizabeth asked a Christmassy question for me to answer on the blog today, but I'm going to save that for next week. Instead I'm going to do a bit of plugging today, because Releasing The Wolf had been reduced to just $0.99 until further notice :D

If you haven't read it yet, this is book one of a series (six books predicted) and it is not your normal werewolf romance. It's more of an urban fantasy actually - a dark one that's highly erotic. The focus of the series is the theme of man vs. beast and higher consciousness vs. baser needs. I'm not saying that love doesn't come into it, but it comes into it within the above context.

The first book is a gentle (so ... my interpretation of gentle may be different to yours) introduction to the series, with book two really taking off with the plot, and I'm just finishing book three now, which is out at the end of December if all goes to plan.

Anyway, Releasing The Wolf is sitting pretty at just $0.99 (or 77p) so give it a try! You might like it :)

Also, as a side note - because it matters to me and I'm super excited about it (such a nerd, am I...) - the paperbacks of this series are all matte cover now, and they look sooooo pretty with a yummy, satiny, touch-me feel to them. I bought myself a couple to see what they were like with the plan to sell them on, signed, but I really don't want to sell them anymore - sorry :/

Series or Standalones?

Firstly, I just want to apologize for the sometimes lack of posts. Last Monday my internet connection went funny on me and well, the last couple of weeks I have been a complete airhead and forgot to give Dianna questions or topics to post about. So, it is totally my fault, and I am very sorry.

Dianna's question for me today: For reading and writing: do you prefer series books or standalones?

As refreshing as a good standalone story can be as both a reader and a writer I find a prefer series. To be honest, it applies with films as well. I always find that I am curious to know what happens next. Although, I am happy that - in most occasions - the hero and heroine get their happily ever after, or the world is saved or whatever good ending takes place in these particular books/films, I want to know what the next challenge is, because naturally, there will be more to the characters lives than that one event.

Perhaps it's greed. Or perhaps it is the simple fact that I fall for a lot of characters and want to know and read more about them.

Looking at my bookshelf it is actually full of series. Ignore encyclopaedias, poetry books, and autobiographies, I think I actually own three fiction books that are standalones, and two of them I haven't read yet. Give me an ongoing series with complex characters, a thrilling world, and a mind-blowing story plot and I am so there.

So yes, as a writer I prefer series also. I mean, I do enjoy the simplicity of a standalone. A single plot which doesn't need to twist and turn in more complex directions and therefore can be extended. It's nice to concentrate on one solid idea. It breaks up the careful planning and rules of a series.

But then again, as I said earlier I always want more, and I find that sometimes my characters have far too much going on; too much to tell and before I have finished planning a book I'm figuring out the next one and the next one, and it's blowing up into a series. This was certainly the case with The Blood Series, which I will be continuing with in 2014.

So, the short answer is, I prefer series. I like bigger story arcs. I like cliffhangers. I like seeing characters progression and their struggles to find their happily ever after.

What about you, do you prefer a solid standalone, or an ongoing series?
